Hurghada goes green: A sustainable transformation on the Red Sea
Egypt's Hurghada, a coastal gem nestled along the Red Sea, is set to undergo a remarkable ecological
makeover to be a sustainable living hub.
With a 3$ million investment from the Global Environment Facility, the city aims to enhance green
spaces, transition to electric vehicles, boost waste recycling, and harness solar energy. The project, led
by the Egyptian Ministry of the Environment and supported by UNIDO, aims to mitigate
environmental degradation and promote sustainability. This transformation is crucial for Hurghada as
it is a popular tourist destination known for its marine life. The funding will be used to restore
degraded marine ecosystems and build eco-friendly infrastructure. Hurghada's journey towards
sustainability reflects Egypt's commitment to balancing economic growth and environmental
preservation.
